During our travels we meet many new people. The great majority of them are nice, friendly, helpful, good to talk to and fun. In other words they are positive. However, the people in New Zealand are absolutely the most welcoming ones we’ve met so far in all our travels!
As we mentioned at the beginning of our blog we decided to do this whole round-the-world trip using Couchsurfing. That means that instead of sleeping in hostels or camping, we stay with local people who live in the place we come to visit (see previous post about that: http://www.swiatzbliska.pl/posty/37). We’ve done that throughout South America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru) as well as in the French Polynesia. Encouraged but the positive experience we’ve had so far we decided to continue this way of traveling in New Zealand as well.
And it’s just great! Everyone we meet wants to make our stay as good and fun as possible. The result is that we are trying new things all the time such as participating in a real circus practice or going on a tour around the vineyards. Moreover, we learn a lot about the country from the Kiwis themselves by just talking to them. It’s so much better than staying in hostels! If you haven’t done it yet – try it!
Well, first impressions about people are really great and what about the nature? I must say that it surprised me how similar the areas in the northern island are to Poland in terms of scenery. There are fields, hills, the same kind of trees and animals around. The cities look different as they are more modern and everyone drives on the left side of the road, but other than that it looks a bit like home.
Talking about the left-side traffic. We decided to travel around New Zealand on motorcycles so we’ll be getting them very soon! I’m so excited!
